I've been gathering our firewood for the winter, which people say will be very snowy. So far it's just very rainy, with temperatures in the 40s.
Thankfully, I'm just scavenging the burn piles from our forestry project so I just need to load up the wood and stack it in front of the cabin as is. Most of the logs are 4-6 feet long. I like to keep logs whole until I need them. It gives me great exercise throughout the winter to buck the logs into stove-sized units. It is often said that wood keeps you warm twice: once when you gather it and once when you burn it. In my case, woods keeps me warm three times: when I gather it, when I buck and chop it, and when I burn it. It doesn't get much better than this ;)
I probably have 4+ cords. Hopefully it will keep us warm throughout the winter.
