On the way back from Saskatoon Circle we stopped at a motel in town to gather some black walnuts that had fallen on the ground. Though most of them were past their prime for eating, we actually gathered them for their husks, which we will use to dye our buckskin clothing. Black walnut dye gives a really nice brown color and is a favorite amongst hide tanners.
Right now I just dried the husks for future use but I'll post some more about the dyeing process when we actually do it.
